Holiday Application Deadlines

Hello Fellow Parent, and Welcome!

This NO-STRESS HOLIDAY DEADLINE newsletter edition is my gift to you this holiday season.

I know the holidays can be stressful enough without college application deadlines hanging over your kid’s head, but they provide a perfect opportunity for practicing manipulating your mind to serve your will.

CASE STUDY #1: HOLIDAY GIFTS

Last minute shopping for the perfect gift, fighting crowds, standing in long lines, wrapping until late into the night and running out of wrapping paper can become unmercifully stressful.

OR

Heading to the local shops in town, appreciating the charm of holiday decorations and the neighbors who you run into, poking around for those last minute gifts that are good enough (it’s the thought that counts), and playing your favorite music while wrapping presents with whatever you’ve got (hint: tinfoil works in a pinch).

I’m guessing both scenarios will take about the same amount of time, but one approach will age you ten years, while the other will add to your life.

CASE STUDY #2: COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES

On the evening of December 31st, the ball is about to drop in more ways than one in your home. Your kid is in a state of panic, racing the clock, pounding out supplemental essays, freaking out when the Common Application takes fifteen seconds to load. You can join in the drama…

OR

You can decide today when and what you can do to help when the deadline arrives. Then have a conversation about it with your child while everyone is calm. Offer love and support, while you explain, I’m happy to proofread your whole application, or anything else you need, any time up to 9:00 PM December 30thBoundaries set, it’s eggnog time for all!

If you’re a parent of a junior, I invite you to pre-order my new book, College Essay Confidence, so you’ll be ready to pre-empt the last minute crisis by months (rather than days) when it’s your turn.

Whatever you celebrate, I wish you a most joyful holiday, complete with stress-free and meaningful family time.

Warmly,

Jill
